Asides from this, he serves as an on-air political analyst for NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt and Today. Between the year 1992 and March 12th, 2007, he worked for National Journal’s The Hotline. There, he was working as editor-in-chief for about six years.

There, he co-hosted the webcast series Hotline TV alongside John Mercurio. This consisted of a daily show lasting between three and seven minutes and a weekly show ranging between 20 to 30 minutes. Asides from this, he also became a frequent guest in political discussion shows. This includes Hardball with Chris Matthews and Inside Politics with Judy Woodruff.

On January 22nd, 2017 saw him interview Kellyanne Conway on Meet the Press. This was a day after White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer accused the media of deliberately under-reporting the crowd size at President Trump’s inaugural ceremony. He gave a response to Todd’s question about the claims saying that the Press Secretary, Sean Spicer gave alternative facts to Donald Trump’s inaugural crowd size but the point remains. However, Todd interrupted saying alternative facts are not facts rather they are falsehoods.

On the 26th and 27th of June 2019, he along with Savannah Guthrie, Jose Diaz-Balart, Rachel Maddow, and Lester Holt moderated the first pair of 2020 Democratic Party presidential debates. His performance as a moderator, in which he ended up speaking more than all but four of the presidential candidates on the first night of the debates, was widely panned. Asides from this, he was also criticized for asking candidates lengthy questions and ten requesting them to respond “in one or two words.”

During an interview with Rolling Stone in December 2019, he discussed his belief on how disinformation overtook the media during the Trump administration. He states that, however, Todd had addressed “alternative facts” being lies in January 2017. This is the PressThink- a project of the Arthur L. Cartel Journalism Institute at New York University that took him to task for failing to address the issues as they unfolded.

The 11th of February 2020 saw him come under fire after quoting a conservative columnist on air during his show about 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and his supporters to Nazi Brownshirts. He explained that no other candidate has anything like this sort of digital brownshirt brigade except for Donald Trump. He further states that the question no one is asking is what if one cannot win the presidency without an online mob.

Todd states that the comments were met with instant backlash with #FireChuckTodd trending on Twitter. He states that Sanders, a Jewish, lost many family members during the Nazi Holocaust. He further explains that neither Sander’s campaign nor MSNBC commented on the incident.
