During her career, Begam has received several awards for her work. Recently, she received an Emmy Award for her reporting at News10. Begam’s father, Mostafa Ammar, passed away in May 2022 at the age of 69. On May 7, 2022, she posted pictures of him on her Instagram account, shared news of his passing, and talked about him and his life. Mostafa was the eldest of 7 siblings and attained a Master’s from Dhaka University in Economics. A freedom fighter, he helped fight for Bangladesh’s independence in 1971. He migrated to the U.S. with his wife in search of more.
Begam has no siblings as she said that she was raised as an only child; “he raised me, his only child, as an independent thinker.” Even so, she has not disclosed any more information about her parents, especially her mother.
