Freddy Vela is an American journalist working for KVEO NBC 23 as the chief meteorologist. He joined the station in April 2020 as a weekend weather meteorologist for CBS4.

Vela joined the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2003 after completing his high school education at Los Fresnos High School. Later, he transferred to the University of Texas Pan-American where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications – Theater/TV/Film in 2008.
In 2019, Vela rejoined school and joined Mississippi State University to chase after his passion for weather. In August 2020, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree concentrating on Broadcast Meteorology. Also, he worked as a theater teacher at Rembrandt Elementary.

His career started when he worked for KFXV in McAllen, Texas as the lead weather forecaster. Ultimately, he started working as the main anchor for “Good Day Valley.” As an anchor, he presented local news and entertainment news. Vela joined CBS 4 in 2017 but left in 2019 to pursue a Meteorology degree at Mississippi State University.
