Alex Giles Biography
Alex Giles is an American journalist working for WBTV as a co-anchor of WBTV News This Morning since 2022. Before that role, he served the station as an anchor at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. from 2019 to 2022. He joined the station in the summer of 2015 as a bureau reporter broadcasting Gaston, Lincoln, and Cleveland counties. Previously, he served WECT in Wilmington, North Carolina as an anchor and reporter.

Upon joining the station in 2015, he first worked as a bureau reporter broadcasting Gaston, Lincoln, and Cleveland counties. In early 2016, he was promoted to serve the station as an anchor of WBTV’s Alert Center, a position he held for 3 years. In this role, he delivered breaking news updates during the early evening newscasts.
During his time at WBTV, he broadcasted the unrest that ignited after the police shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott and the protests that followed the death of George Floyd. Moreover, he has had the chance to cover North Carolina storms, traveled to the mountains to broadcast winter weather, and drove to the coast to broadcast hurricanes.
During the presidential campaign in 2020, he interviewed President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Aside from writing, shooting, and editing stories about the matters impacting the residents of North and South Carolina, he also works with the CMPD Crime Stoppers program to deliver stories that highlight criminal activity in Charlotte. Also, he serves on the board of CMPD’s Crime Stoppers.
After graduating college, he relocated to Wilmington where he worked for WECT News as an anchor and reporter. While at the station, he went to Raleigh to broadcast occasions at the state legislature. Also, he had the chance to interview a death row prisoner at North Carolina’s Central Prison. Further, he assisted WECT’s station in Charleston to broadcast the lethal church shooting that claimed the lives of nine innocent people. In addition, he won awards for his breaking news broadcast and the investigation of law enforcement surveillance technology.
