Eugene Daniel Biography
Eugene Daniel is an American journalist working for WVEC 13 News Now as an anchor of Daybreak newscasts from 4:30 to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday since May 2023. Before that, he served the station as a weekend evening anchor. He joined the station in October 2020 as a reporter and multi-skilled journalist.

In May 2021, he was promoted to weekend evening anchor before he joined the Daybreak team in May 2023.
During his time at WVEC, he has broadcasted several eminent stories including the federal case after the controversial traffic stop of Army Lt. Caron Nazario in Windsor and the deputy-involved shooting demise of Andrew Brown Jr.
Daniel has closely followed the modifications in Portsmouth City government, including an exclusive interview with ex-police chief Renado Prince about his dismissal. He works as a membership chair for Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals. Additionally, he collaborates with Hampton University and Norfolk State University to mentor aspiring journalists.
Before Virginia, he worked in Central Illinois as a reporter and evening anchor. There, he won an Edward R. Murrow for work on race relations and matters facing the Black community in the area. He also won an award from the Illinois Broadcasting Association for his work on sports-related concussions and the creation of safer football helmets.
Aside from reporting, he worked as a volunteer as a Young Adult Coordinator at his church in Peoria, Illinois. In this role, he worked with college students and people ages 19 to 29. He enjoys working in the community, particularly mentoring children and teens.
