Love Island UK follows a group of singles named Islanders who relocate to a luxury villa in Majorca with the hopes of discovering love. The Islanders have to couple up to survive whether it’s for love, friendship, or money with the overall successful couple standing to win £50,000. At first, they couple up depending on first impressions but have to recouple later in the show where they either swap partners or choose to remain with their current partners.
If an Islander remains single after the re-coupling, that islander leaves the show and the Island. Aside from that, Islanders can be voted off the Island by the public through the Love Island app. Regularly, the Islanders themselves get the chance to eliminate one of the couples on the Island. Throughout the show’s final week, the public votes for their favorite couple to win the series.
During their time on the show, each Islander has a phone which they only use to text each other, informing on the most recent challenges, eliminations, or recouplings. They also participate in games and challenges planned to examine their physical and mental ability, with the winners obtaining special prizes. Moreover, some islanders get to have a date outside the villa or win dates by winning challenges.
