Tom Sturridge is an English actor who played the role of Dream in Netflix’s The Sandman from 2022 to 2025. He was nominated for the Tony Best Actor in a Play Award for his performances in Orphans and Sea Wall/A Life (2019). He received a nomination for the Laurence Olivier Best Actor in a Supporting Role Award in 2016 for his performance in a West End revival of the play American Buffalo.

Sturridge launched his career as a child actor. In 1986, he starred in the TV adaptation of Gulliver’s Travels, directed by his father and co-starring his mother. In 2004, he starred in Vanity Fair and Being Julia. The following year, he starred as William Herbert, 3rd Earl of Pembroke, in BBC4’s A Waste of Shame. He starred as Nigel in Like Minds, also known by the title Murderous Intent, in 2006.

Sturridge starred opposite Rachel Bilson in Waiting for Forever in 2011. He also portrayed a character loosely based on poet Allen Ginsberg in Walter Salles’s film adaptation of On the Road. In the spring of 2013, he starred as Phillip in the Broadway play Orphans. His performance earned him a nomination for the Tony Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play. In 2017, he portrayed Winston Smith in the Broadway production of 1984.

Sturridge co-starred with Jake Gyllenhaal in the Broadway play Sea Wall/A Life in 2019. His performance in the play won him a nomination for a Tony Best Leading Actor in a Play. In January 2021, he was confirmed to appear in Netflix’s adaptation of The Sandman, playing Dream of the Endless / Lord Morpheus. In 2023, he starred as François Clicquot in Widow Clicquot.
