Liz McGiffin Biography

Liz McGiffin is an American meteorologist working for KDVR & KWGN as a meteorologist for the Pinpoint weather team since joining the station in March 2023. Previously, she worked for WCMH in Columbus, Ohio, for over 4 years.

Liz McGiffin Education

McGiffin joined the University of Missouri in 2008 after finishing his studies at Liberty High School. In 2012, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science. During college, she was involved with the American Meteorological Society, Phi Mu Fraternity (Chi Chapter), Meteorology Club, KOMU-TV8, KTVL News10, and the American Meteorological Society.

While growing up in Kansas, she would go on summer trips to Colorado with her family to run from the heat and humidity, so she already feels at home around her favorite vacation spots! During her career, she has broadcast TV weather in all four time zones of the continental US.

While in college, McGiffin worked as an intern and launched her on-air career at one of the local TV Stations. She secured her first full-time weather position in Medford, Oregon, where she was a morning meteorologist. There, she delivered forecasts of 5 various microclimates and obtained experience with mountain and fire weather forecasting. Next, she relocated to Tornado Alley, where she worked as a meteorologist in Springfield, Missouri. While in Springfield, she received her first Emmy Award and continued to forecast severe weather for all seasons in Columbus, Ohio.

McGiffin has been active with the American Meteorological Society since she was a student. In this capacity, she has held multiple roles, including the Board for Early Career Professionals, the student conference planning committee, and the Board on Representation Accessibility Inclusion and Diversity (BRAID).

McGiffin is passionate about diversity and inclusion for people in weather, climate, and water careers. As a result, she has been involved with the AMS Women’s Committee and COSMOS (Committee on Spirituality, Multifaith Outreach, and Science).
