Dan Tomaso Biography
Dan Tomaso is an American meteorologist working for WHTM ABC 27 as a weekend evening meteorologist. He joined the station in August 2009, doing a part-time meteorology position, and became a full-time employee in March 2015.
Dan Tomaso Education
Tomaso joined Penn State University in August 2008 after finishing his high school education. In August 2013, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in Meteorology. He also did the Ph.D. program working for Dr. Raymond G. Najjar.
During his time at Penn State, Tomaso mainly served ABC27 on weekends and during school breaks. He was accepted into the Penn State Integrated Undergraduate/Graduate Program in the spring of 2011, working with Dr. Najjar on his thesis research titled, “Seasonal and Interannual Variability of the Upper Delaware Estuary Dissolved Oxygen and Dissolved Inorganic Carbon Budgets.” This work is part of a published manuscript in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences.

Tomaso works for WHTM ABC 27 as a weekend evening meteorologist. In this role, he forecasts on weekend evenings live during ABC27 News at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday. He also enjoys participating in and volunteering for local events.
Tomaso decided to pursue meteorology after Hurricane Danny caught his attention in 1997 because of the name. The Harrisburg native used to watch the local weather for fun and learned as much as he could from evening newscasts on ABC27 with the StormTrack Team.
Tomaso initially began sharing his knowledge of the weather on a closed-circuit TV channel called the “Royal News Network” at Saint Catherine Laboure School during his seventh- and eighth-grade years. The channel featured Chuck Rhodes as a guest co-anchor in 2003, which further steered him toward meteorology. In August 2009, he accepted a part-time meteorology position at ABC27 and has never left.
Before joining ABC27 full-time, Tomaso received his degree in college. During his time at Penn State, he mainly served ABC27 on weekends and during school breaks. He left Penn State in March 2015 to pursue his dream job in broadcast meteorology at ABC27 with a full-time on-air position. Though he didn’t finish his Ph.D. dissertation, he realized that his passion for forecasting and broadcasting in his hometown was the direction he needed for his career. In February 2019, he obtained his broadcast meteorologist seal from the National Weather Association.
