Mark McLean Biography

Mark McLean is an American meteorologist working for 13WHAM as a morning meteorologist on Fox Rochester from 8 to 10 a.m. He also produces the weather for 13WHAM News Midday. He joined the station in May 2000 as a part-time morning meteorologist working behind the scenes.

Mark McLean Education

McLean joined SUNY Oswego after finishing his education at Spencerport High School. He later graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology.

Upon joining the station, he initially worked as a part-time morning meteorologist, working behind the scenes. He gradually worked his way up and was promoted to fll-in meteorologist in January 2001.

McLean serves as a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS). The organization recognized him with their Television Seal of Approval. Besides his work on screen, he has been an adjunct professor of weather and climate at Monroe Community College since fall 2001. He also promotes the weather through school visits and station tours.

McLean’s passion for the weather began while he was in middle school, most likely because of an Earth science class. In college, he picked meteorology over physics, astronomy, and horticulture due to his love for lake effect snow and studying Lake Ontario’s effect on local Rochester weather. He finds the weather in WNY active and interesting as it changes by the minute and hour due to Rochester’s closeness to Lake Ontario and the lake’s dramatic effect on the weather.
