Karen Travers is an American journalist working for ABC NEWS as a Washington-based correspondent for ABC NewsOne, the network’s affiliate news service. She joined the network in 2000 as a desk assistant.

Since joining ABC News, Travers has delivered extensive broadcasts on Washington and national politics, including two presidential elections and the Obama and Bush Administrations. She also spent a month producing for ABC News’ Baghdad bureau.
Besides politics, Travers has covered numerous major stories, including the Amtrak derailment in Philadelphia, crucial Supreme Court disputes and decisions, the mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, and the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, and Baltimore, Maryland. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she delivered in-depth reports for ABC News Live on the child care industry, paid family leave, school closures and reopenings, the early scramble to find vaccines, and the challenges faced by families with unvaccinated children under age 5.
Travers sits on the board of the White House Correspondents’ Association. The Alliance for Women in Media honored her with a Gracie Award for Outstanding Radio News Anchor. In 2021, she received two Edward R. Murrow Awards, including the Breaking News Award for her radio broadcast of President Trump testing positive for COVID-19 and his hospitalization.
