Aaron Mentkowski Biography
Aaron Mentkowski is an American meteorologist working for WKBW as the chief meteorologist. He joined the station in March 2000 and has served the station for over 2 decades. Previously, he worked as a meteorologist for WZVN for 2 years.
Aaron Mentkowski Education
Mentkowski joined the University of Buffalo after finishing his studies at North Tonawanda High School. He then transferred to the State University of New York at Oswego in 1993. In 1996, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology. While in college, he studied Lake Effect Snow patterns.

Mentkowski works for WKBW as the chief meteorologist. In this role, he delivers the morning forecast Monday through Friday. Moreover, he works as a forecaster for the weather live on afternoons for WJYE 96.1FM and WYRK 106.5FM. He serves as the first Certified Broadcast Meteorologist in Buffalo and was the 35th meteorologist in the country to receive the designation from the American Meteorological Society.
Besides his work on TV, Mentkowski works as an adjunct professor of meteorology at Jamestown Community College and Buffalo State College. Additionally, he is a forensic meteorologist for multiple law firms. In 2006, he served as an inductee of the North Tonawanda High School Wall of Fame. Art Voice magazine nominated him for the Best Local Weatherman in Buffalo Award. He appeared on “LIVE with Regis and Kelly” in January 2009, where he talked about he snow in Buffalo.
Before working in Buffalo, Mentkowski worked in Macon, Georgia, and Fort Myers, Florida. Additionally, he forecasted weather conditions for ski resorts and radio stations in North America. The Lockport native has had a fascination with the weather for as long as he can remember. While growing up in Western New York, he saw his share of snowstorms, which led him to pursue a career in meteorology.
