Ann Nyberg Biography
Ann Nyberg is an American journalist working for WTNH as a weekday anchor at noon, 4 p.m., 5 p.m., and 6 p.m. She also works as a producer and host of her own show called “NYBERG,” which highlights innovators, entrepreneurs, and those in the arts. She joined the station in 1987 and has served the station for over 3 decades. Previously, she worked for WFOR as a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter for 2 years.

She started her broadcast journalism career immediately after graduating from college in Indiana and Oklahoma, before moving to Connecticut.
Nyberg has worked in TV news for over 4 decades, making her the longest-serving female news anchor and reporter in Connecticut TV history. Additionally, she is the longest-serving anchor and reporter in WTNH’s history. Some of her storytelling highlights include going on assignments to the Vatican to cover Pope John Paul II, the communist country of Cuba, and a trip to Cher’s house for an interview.
Nyberg has always been a storyteller, starting in her childhood with a diary her mother gave her for Christmas when she was just 8 years old. In October 2015, she published her first book, Slices of Life, A Storyteller’s Diary.” She published her second book, “Remembering Katharine Hepburn: Stories of Wit and Wisdom About America’s Leading Lady,” in October of the following year.
Nyberg has a deep passion for philanthropy. In this capacity, she founded the Toy Closet Program at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Since its founding, many toys have been given to children of all ages to help relieve their trauma.
Nyberg, alover of the arts, serves as a founding board of trustees member of the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook in 1993. She owns Annie Mame, a boutique in Madison, Connecticut. The boutique is a tribute to one of her favorite movies, “Auntie Mame,” which was released in 1958 and starred Rosalind Russell, a Waterbury native.
Awards
During her career, Nyberg has received many honors and awards, including several Emmy Award nominations. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Boston/New England Chapter honored Nyberg with the Silver Circle in November 2015, which is given to TV professionals who have significantly contributed to their community and the TV industry.
Connecticut Magazine has been chosen “Best News Anchor” for numerous years. Harper’s Bazaar Magazine recognized her during its 150th anniversary as a woman of success who pays it forward in 2017. The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center awarded her the “Spirit of Katharine Hepburn Award” in 2018, which annually honors those who embody the spirit, independence, and character of Katharine Hepburn.
The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame/New Haven County chapter honored Nyberg with the 2023 Distinguished American Award. The following year, she received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of New Haven. She joined the Connecticut Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2025.
