Anne Hathaway is an American actress whose films have grossed more than $6.8 billion globally and appeared on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list in 2009. In 2015, she served among the globe’s highest-paid actresses.

Anne Hathaway Education

Hathaway studied at Brooklyn Heights Montessori School and Wyoming Elementary School in Millburn. She then joined Millburn High School where she played soccer. Also, she partook in numerous plays including  Once Upon a Mattress where she played the role of Winnifred. Next, she made appearances in Jane Eyre and Gigi at New Jersey’s Paper Mill Playhouse.

In 1993, she studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and served as the initial teen to join the Barrow Group Theater Company’s acting program. For several semesters, she majored in English and minored in Political Science at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Next, she transferred to New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.

From 1998 to 1999, she served as a soprano singer alongside the All-Eastern U.S. High School Honors Chorus at Carnegie Hall and in plays in West Orange, New Jersey at Seton Hall Preparatory School. She secured the role of Meghan Green in FOX’s Get Real three days after performing at Carnegie Hall. Due to the filming of The Princess Diaries in 2001, she missed her first college semester. As claimed by Hathaway, she doesn’t regret not finishing her degree.

Hathaway has appeared in various plays during her time in high school. While she was a teenager, she secured a role in Get Real and rose to fame with the lead role in Disney’s The Princess Diaries. After appearing in a series of family films like Ella Enchanted, she started appearing in adult roles, her first being Brokeback Mountain in 2005. The following year, she starred in The Devil Wears Prada which earned her her largest commercial success at the time.

She received a nomination for the Academy Best Actress Award for her performance in  Rachel Getting Married. Next, she appeared in various commercially prosperous films like  Get Smart, Bride Wars,  Valentine’s Day, Love & Other Drugs, and Alice in Wonderland.

Hathaway has advocated for the Nike Foundation to increase awareness against child marriages. In July 2006, she helped in the vaccination of children in Nicaragua against Hepatitis A for a week. In 2022, Hathaway said that she was praying for Ukraine during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Additionally, she made donations to UNICEF, Save the Children, and the Ukrainian Red Cross Society in an effort to help the people of Ukraine. She commended the Berlin International Film Festival in 2023 for featuring Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Hathaway was born to Kate (née McCauley) Gerald Hathaway. Her father works as a labor attorney while her mother previously acted. She grew up in Millburn, New Jersey alongside her older brother, Michael, and younger brother, Thomas. Before Millburn, the family resided in New York till they relocated when she was 6 years old.

When she was 8, Hathaway watched her mother play the role of Fantine in Les Misérables during the musical’s first national tour. Thus, she developed a liking for the stage.
