Mohyeldin indicated initially that the knife in the boy’s open hands was spared a knife since he saw his dead body at the location, leaving the boy with the knife in position to be lying away as well. One MSNBC reporter did interrupt him on the air, but ran a photo of the falling in, something seeming to be a knife in the air before he was assassinated.

Following the interruption of the MSNBC journalist, Mohyeldin reiterated that the assailant had no knife in his hand after he had been killed and secured by the Israeli police. Following his coverage of the June 2016 Tel Aviv shooting, the Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post criticized Mohyeldin for “walking to the right,” 35 seconds of consciousness in which he managed to squeeze in four references to “occupation” and three references to Israeli politics, “shifting to the right” or “extreme right,” while talking about Palestinian “frustration” and Israeli oppression.
