Barak Shapiro Biography
Barak Shapiro is an American reporter, meteorologist, and multimedia journalist working with NEWSnet, in Farmington, Michigan as a Senior Meteorologist. He joined the station in March 2022, as a weekday morning meteorologist.
Barak Shapiro Education
Shapiro attended Florida Atlantic University, where he graduated. He then joined Florida State University in 1998 and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology.
Barak Shapiro Career
KOLD
From 2004 to 2006, Shapiro worked as a KOLD Weekend Meteorologist for Raycom Media. There he was the No. 1 weekend newscast and maintained weather computers. He also updated the station web forecast, was a featured speaker for local schools regarding weather careers and the TV business, and resolved local viewer questions about weather.
KOKI
Shapiro then joined Newport as the KOKI Morning Meteorologist and Live Reporter from March 2006 until April 2008. There, he was responsible for all graphics opening five five-minute weathercasts, 16 main weather hits, and 25 short hits per day. He also updated all web graphics and videos before, during, and after morning and noon newscasts. Additionally, Shapiro created and compiled new movies for morning and night newscasts and graphics for web purposes.
KSLA
In February 2009, he joined KSLA, in Shreveport, Louisiana Area as a Weekend Meteorologist and Weekday Multimedia Journalist until March 2011. There, he was responsible for forecasting accurate and consistent local weather and updating the web with forecast text, graphics, video, and radio weather for local stations. He also produced interactive graphics, was a fill-in Meteorologist, and a Green Reporter.
Sinclair Broadcast Group
Shapiro joined Sinclair Broadcast Group, in Nashville, Tennessee as a Week Day Prime Time Meteorologist from March 2011 until December 2016. There he was the Monday through Friday prime-time Meteorologist, and coordinated scheduling between team members and freelance meteorologists during vacation. He also re-created our SkyWatch Radar for the HD transition in a distinctive and one-of-a-kind look in the market. Shapiro created a new radar color table to add to the unique look and helped enforce the brand on all visible news monitors, tickers, and title calling during newscasts among other roles.

Hearst, WCPO 9 News, WXIX
From January 2017 to August 2017, he worked as a weekend morning meteorologist at Hearst, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He then joined WCPO 9 News in Cincinnati, Ohio from September 2017 to March 2019 as a weekend morning meteorologist. From March 2020 to November 2020, he worked as the weekend morning meteorologist for FOX19 WXIX, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
