Barry Keoghan is an Irish actor who has received several accolades including a British Academy Film Award and nominations for an Academy Award and two Golden Globe Awards. The Irish Times ranked him 27th in its 2020 list of Ireland’s greatest film actors.

Keoghan participated in school plays at the O’Connell School on Dublin’s North Richmond Street. However, he got banished for messing around. He says that he learned about films when he used to sneak into films alongside his friends into Cineworld on Parnell Street, where he was also banished. Keoghan started his acting career in 2011 when he responded to a casting notice in a Sheriff Street shop window for Between the Canals. He secured the minor role of Aido in the film. When he was 18, he starred in Fair City. In 2013, he starred as Wayne in Love/Hate, for which he received recognition in Ireland. The following year, he appeared in ’71 before starring in Mammal and Trespass Against Us in 2016.

In 2017, he received recognition for starring in Dunkirk and The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Further, he received more praise for starring in Calm with Horses and The Green Knight. Next, he appeared in HBO’s  Chernobyl. In 2021, he broadened his career to big-budget films when he joined the MCU and starred as Druig in Eternals. The following year, he starred in The Banshees of Inisherin, which earned him BAFTA Best Actor in a Supporting Role Award and nominations for the Golden Globe Best Supporting Actor Award and Academy Best Supporting Actor Award.

In 2023, Keoghan starred in Saltburn, which earned him nominations for a Golden Globe Best Actor Award and a BAFTA Best Actor Award. That same year, he starred in Netflix’s Top Boy. In 2023, he appeared in Apple TV+’s Masters of the Air. Aside from his film work, Keoghan works as an ambassador for Dior and Barretstown, a not-for-profit camp for children with cancer and other severe sicknesses. In 2017, Keoghan starred in the role of 16-year-old Martin Lang in the psychological thriller film, The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Martin is a seemingly kind, charming young man who gets along with everyone. He and a cardiothoracic surgeon, Steven Murphy, share a friendly relationship.

Martin alludes that he wants them to have a father-son relationship which Steven opposes and starts pushing him away since he has a wife and two kids. Things take a different turn when Steven’s son, Bob, starts exhibiting symptoms that can’t be medically traced and the true nature of Martin and Steven’s relationship comes to light.
