Ramsey studied online via King’s InterHigh. When they were 4 years old, they started acting as a hobby through the Loughborough branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts where they studied for 7 years. Next, they joined the Television Workshop and started auditioning for professional roles.

Ramsey starred as Lyanna Mormont in HBO’s Game of Thrones from 2016 to 2019. This marked her first credited role. After appearing in The Broken Man, the 7th episode on SN 6, fans and critics noticed that they were a standout character for their portrayal of Lyanna. In 2017, they starred in The Worst Witch as  Mildred Hubble, winning the 2019 British Academy Children’s Young Performer Award. In 2020, they announced their departure from the show through their Instagram account. They cited mental health as a reason for the departure. Lydia Page replaced her for the fourth and final season.

Ramsey provided the voice-over for the titular character in Netflix’s Hilda, winning the 2019 BAFTA award for best “Children’s Animation” with Luke Pearson, Kurt Mueller, and Stephanie Simpson. This also marked Ramsey’s debut of their singing talent, with their debut song The Life of Hilda marketed on November 25, 2020. They recurred the role of Hilda in Hilda and the Mountain King, which premiered on 30 December 2021.

Ramsey joined the cast of HBO’s adaptation of The Last Of Us in the lead role of Ellie opposite Pedro Pascal. In 2021, they starred in Requiem with Safia Oakley-Green. Their portrayal in The Last of Us won a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Award in July 2023, making them the initial non-binary actor to win the nomination.
