Benji Madden is an American musician working as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for Good Charlotte. He started the band with his twin brother, Joel, in 1996.

Madden is the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for Good Charlotte. He started the band with his twin brother, Joel, in 1996. While playing in the band, the brothers wrote and produced for other artists. Madden co-wrote and co-produced some of the songs on Hilary Duff’s Most Wanted compilation album in 2005. Later, he helped write  5 Seconds of Summer’s Amnesia and Kalin and Myles’ No Ordinary Girl.

Madden has also worked as a backup vocalist for artists like Mest, The 69 Eyes, Kill Hannah, Apoptygma Berzerk, Three 6 Mafia, MxPx, Sean Kingston, Chamillionaire, and Matisyahu. In 2001, he launched the fashion line called Made Clothing with his brothers Joel and Josh. The line became part of the DCMA Collective in early 2006.

Madden participated in a boxing match against Riki Rachtman on April 3, 2010,  at Ellismania 5: Get These Brawls. Hosted by Jason Ellis, the event took place at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. He beat Rachtman by knockout at 1 minute and 42 seconds into the first round.

Madden and his brother, Joel, released a free mix-tape, The Madden Brothers: Before Volume 1 on November 11, 2011, which featured new artists the brothers were personally interested in, including Machine Gun Kelly, Rockie Fresh, Kreayshawn, Cassie Veggies, HXLT, and Wiz Khalifa. Their brother, Josh, helped to produce the mix-tape.

2012 to present;

Madden made an appearance on The Voice Australia with Joel as joint mentor-judge in 2012. The following year, he helped write Tonight Alive’s Breakdown, provided back-up vocals at the end of the song, and appeared in the video. His vocals appeared on TJR’s Come Back Down. On September 16, 2014, they released Greetings from California.

Madden and Joel served as coaches on The Voice Kids Australia in a double chair in mid-2014. In early 2015, he joined Joel as a coach on the main edition of The Voice. That same year, he and his two brothers started their company, MDDN, where Madden serves as CEO.

MDDN offers artist management, artist development, and creative services. Through the company, the brothers took management of Chase Atlantic, Architects, Jessie J, Bad Omens, Waterparks, Eyedress, and Poppy. In 2017, Madden and Joel co-founded the streaming platform, Veeps, where they are co-CEOs. In January 2021, Live Nation Entertainment acquired a majority stake in the platform.

Good Charlotte’s songs and albums have been recognized at the MTV Australia Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards, and the MTV Europe Music Awards. The Anthem from their second album, The Young and the Hopeless, won the “Best Rock Video” award from the MTV Video Music Awards Japan. The song also won the “Peoples Choice: Favorite International Group” award from the MuchMusic Video Awards.

Good Charlotte has won awards, including the Nickelodeon Australian Kids’ Choice Fave International Band Award, the NRJ Music Best International Group Award, and the TMF Best International Rock Act Award. As of 2020, the band has won nine awards from twenty-one nominations.
