Benny Blanco Biography

Benny Blanco is an American record producer who received the 2013 Hal David Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Additionally, he has attained the BMI Songwriter of the Year Award five times and the iHeartRadio Producer of the Year Award in 2017.

Benny Blanco Career

Blanco started producing hip-hop instrumentals in his bedroom and recording his vocals on top of them in North Carolina. In 1994, he had his first profound music exposure with “The World Is Yours” by Nas and “I Swear” by All-4-One on cassette tapes at the age of 6. The songs influenced his early productions.

Blanco then experimented with beat-making and recording himself on his boombox. The Source and Executives at Columbia Records noticed Blanco after they heard him rapping. For many years, he frequented Camp Airy when he was a child in Thurmont, Maryland. While there, he generally performed and hosted a radio program under the name, “Ebba Ebba.” Ultimately, he got an internship with producer Disco D after traveling to New York City to meet with labels and producers.

Blanco received the 2013 Hal David Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Additionally, he has attained the BMI Songwriter of the Year Award five times and the iHeartRadio Producer of the Year Award in 2017.

Dr. Luke, a songwriter and producer, mentored and signed Blanco to his production company, Kasz Money Productions. While there, he co-wrote and co-produced many hit singles in the late 2000s. His work has sold more than 500 million album-equivalent units globally for artists such as Justin Bieber,  Kanye West, Avicii, Charlie Puth, Kesha, Britney Spears, Keith Urban, Halsey, Rihanna, Sia, The Weeknd, and Selena Gomez to list a few.

2018 to present;

Blanco worked as a lead artist in his debut single “Eastside” with Halsey and Khalid in July 2018. Next, he released I Found You with Calvin Harris, Better to Lie with Jesse and Swae Lee, Roses with Brendon Urie and Juice Wrld, and Graduation with Juice Wrld. In December 2018, he released his debut album,  Friends Keep Secrets. Moreover, he released a premier issue of the album in March 2021. Simultaneously, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) granted him a platinum certification for the original album.

Blanco founded two labels in partnership with Interscope Records named Mad Love Records and Friends Keep Secrets. Additionally, he has signed artists like Tory Lanez, Jessie Ware, and Cashmere Cat to list a few. He released his first collaboration in “Bad Decisions” featuring  Snoop Dogg and BTS members Jin, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook.

Blanco worked with Matty Matheson, a praised chef, to launch a collaborative cooking program named Matty and Benny Eat Out America on Blanco’s YouTube channel on March 9, 2020. In the show, they have had guest appearances of celebrities like Lil Dicky, Diplo, Laird Hamilton, and Mason Ramsey to list a few.

Blanco debuted on TV when he starred in the role of a fictionalized rendition of himself on SN 1 and 2 of FXX’s Dave with Lil Dicky on April 16, 2020. Blanco and Matheson launched another cooking program on Benny’s YouTube channel, Stupid F*cking Cooking Show on March 31, 2021.
