Bill Martin Biography
Bill Martin is an American Meteorologist working for KTVU in San Francisco as the chief meteorologist. He has been working for the station since 1993.

After he completed high school, Martin studied and graduated from the University of California Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Geography (emphasis in Climatology). He later decided to go back to college where he spent 3 years of postgraduate at San Francisco State studying Atmospheric Science.

Martin did his internship at KRON Television (NBC), in San Francisco for 1 year, and then took a job as a Chief Meteorologist at KFTY(Ind) in Santa Rosa for 2 years. He later landed another job opportunity at KPIX(CBS) in San Francisco and was their morning show meteorologist for 2 years then finally became part of the KTVU team in 1993.
Martin first started working at KTVU as a weekend meteorologist in 1993, at that time there was no weather department at KTVU. He was handed the opportunity of creating and build KTVU’s weather brand from the ground up. Martin worked as a weekend meteorologist until he became the chief meteorologist in 1995.
In 2014 after over 25 years of forecasting weather in the Bay Area, he was one of 6 meteorologists in the country chosen to go to the White House to interview President Obama on Climate Change. That was a career highlight for him for he had an opportunity to attend meetings with the President and his top science advisors. He was also awarded the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist(CBM) by the American Meteorological Society which is the highest level of certification available and only a few meteorologists on the West Coast have them.
One of Bill’s claims to fame is that he has read nearly every book ever written on California history and is fascinated by that state and the people that were drawn here, from the Native Americans to the Spanish to the pioneers. Martin also won an award in 2015, he was awarded a Northern California Emmy for a best on-air meteorologist.
