Brad Stephens Biography

Brad Stephens is an American Emmy-Award-Winning anchor working at KCTV5 where he serves as the co-anchor of the 4, 5, 6, 9 & 10 pm newscasts. He joined the KCTV5 News team in October 2005.  

Brad Stephens Career

After the EF-5 tornado hit Joplin, Missouri, Stephens, and his KCTV colleagues reported on the stunning devastation and incredible loss of life for a number of days in May 2011.  Ever since he has gone back to Joplin a number of times to document the city’s robust recovery and the incredible resolve shown by the people of Joplin to rebuild their hometown. A few years after the 2011 EF-5 tornado, he reported from San Francisco as the Kansas City Royals made their improbable run to the 2014 World Series with the Giants.

In addition, he is happy with the accomplishments he has made while working at KCTV. Over the years, Stephens has received a number of Emmy awards and nominations. He won two Emmy awards in 2016, one for a story in which KCTV partnered with the Overland Park Fire Department to show how fast house fires burn.

Furthermore, he was named the recipient of the local NAACP media and journalism award in 2017. In 1982, he joined the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he graduated in 1987, with a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism. During his leisure time, he enjoys being outside, on a trip to one of our local lakes, playing a Royals game at Kauffman, relaxing, and mowing his yard.
