Brandi Cummings Biography

Brandi Cummings is an American Anchor/Reporter working with KCRA 3 News/My58 Television in Sacramento, California serving the station as a Weekday Morning News Anchor/ Special Assignments Reporter since January 2022. Prior to this, she was serving the station as a Weekend Evening Anchor/Reporter a role she held between March 2021 and February 2022.

Cummings is a proud graduate of Lasell College where she obtained a Master’s Degree in Integrated Marketing Communication in the year 2014. There, she graduated with a 3.95 GPA while working full-time. She is also a proud graduate of Clark Atlanta University where she graduated with honors with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Media Arts. Her alma mater honored her as a “Clark Atlanta University Alum for  Day.” This was on the 22nd of May 2013.

Cummings works with KCRA 3 News where she serves the station as a Weekday Morning News Anchor/ Special Assignments Reporter. The award-winning journalist joined the station working as a General Assignment Reporter/Fill-in Anchor a role she held between April 2018 and March 2021.

Since joining the station, she has covered stories in Northern California ranging from wildfires to snow. She has extensively covered issues related to COVID-19 funding, vaccine equity, and testing. Asides from this, she regularly gives members of the community a voice to shine a spotlight on important issues.

Prior to joining KCRA News, she was working with WAVY/WVBT in Portsmouth, Virginia. During this time, she was the station’s solo weekend evening anchor. During the week, she worked as both a general assignment and an award-winning investigative reporter. Prior to going to WAVY, she worked as a morning anchor at WTOC in Savannah, Georgia. She has also previously worked as a reporter/anchor at WIS in Columbia, South Carolina. Cummings kick-started her career working with WRDW in her hometown, Augusta, Georgia where she was serving the station as a producer.

In the 2016-2017 school year, she was working as an adjunct professor at the prestigious Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communication at Hampton University. She has several honors which include awards from the Virginia Associated Press and the South Carolina Associated Press. Cummings is proud to be a two-time National Association of Black Journalists Salute to Excellence Award winner recipient.

The month of May 2012 saw her being honored with a Concurrent Resolution from the South Carolina General Assembly for her service to the people of the state. Her stories have allowed her to interview several influential people which include former President Barack Obama. Asides from this, a long list of accomplishments, mentions, and features was featured in the Summer of 2011 to cover Midlands Woman magazine.

Brandi is a former Board Member of The First Tee of Savannah. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, NABJ, and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, San Francisco/Northern California Chapter.

The year 2010 saw her fulfill her life’s dream to develop a program for girls. In both youth Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, and Columbia where she spearheaded the execution of the program, she created titled the “Loving Me Seminar” for teen girls. Month of August year 2010 then saw she self-publish her first book of poetry, “Straight to the Heart: Life & Love.”
