Brandon Butcher Biography

Brandon Butcher is an American multi-Emmy award-winning meteorologist working at WSAZ where he serves as a morning meteorologist.  He joined the WSAZ team in 2011. 

Brandon has resided in Mountain State for almost 15 years and in 2000, he was able to secure a job at WDTV in Clarksburg, West Virginia where he served as a chief meteorologist. Butcher attended Penn State University where he graduated with a degree in meteorology. In addition, he is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association where he earns both their Seals of Approval.

Over the years, he has won many Emmy awards including back-to-back-to-back Emmys for outstanding weather casting in the Boston/New England Region. Furthermore, for a special program on the great West Virginia floods of 1985, he won an Emmy award. In 2005, the State Broadcasters Association awarded him the Best Weathercaster aware in the state of West Virginia.

Over the years, he has covered hurricanes and tornado events as the twister was hitting his studio building. Brandon is also passionate about teaching and as of the moment, he is earning his Master’s Degree in Education and currently teaches meteorology at the collegiate level inside and outside the state. During his leisure time, he enjoys being with his kids outdoors, at church, working out at the gym, in community events such as; the Flatwoods Outlets straight down US-19 to the Gorge and the From Hillbilly Days to the Jackson Apple Festival.
