Chris Earl is an American journalist working for KAKE as an evening anchor of the 4, 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts since joining the station in March 2024. Previously, he worked for WFTX FOX 4 in Cape Coral, Florida, as an evening anchor for 2 years.

Earl joined the University of Wisconsin in August 1992 after finishing his high school education. In May 1997, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science and Government. During his time in college, he was involved with Phi Kappa Sigma and WLHA-FM 91.5, the Student Radio.

Earl developed a love for journalism at the age of 5 when he watched the broadcast of the 1980 election. While other children watched cartoons on those kindergarten mornings, he watched the news in front of the living room TV. His passion for storytelling has grown since then.
The Missouri native has lived in both Kansas City and, later, in St. Louis. However, he claims Kansas City as his hometown because of his lifelong fandom of the Royals, Chiefs, KU, and K-State. He enjoyed the WSU basketball teams of the Eddie Fogler era of the late 1980s.
After graduating from college in Wisconsin, Earl moved to Kansas as a news photographer in Topeka. There, he broadcast the memorable #1-ranked KU men’s basketball team and K-State’s season that led to the Fiesta Bowl. He then moved to Eau Claire, where he served WEAU 13 News as a sports anchor and reporter for nearly 2 years. Next, he was the sports director at KBJR in Duluth, Minnesota, for 5 years.
After being a sports anchor for nine years, Earl transitioned to news in 2005 at WEAU as the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. anchor. Three years later, he moved to Cedar Rapids as an evening anchor at KCRG-TV. He spent 14 years there before moving to Fort Myers/Cape Coral, Florida, as an evening anchor at WFTX FOX 4. Now, he is back to where it all started, Kansas.
While in Iowa, Earl earned many awards for his anchoring and reporting, including Iowa Broadcast News Association first-place awards in Iowa “Anchor, Large Market” from 2015 to 2017 and “Reporter, Large Market” in 2013. This made him the only journalist to place first in both IBNA categories.
Though Earl focuses most of his career on TV and digital, he launched his career as a sportswriter for The Capital Times in Madison in 1996. He kept writing for years and has authored three published novels: Gotcha Down in 2004, The Interim in 2007, and The Last Out in 2009. He once won $10,000 on ESPN’s “Two-Minute Drill” in 2000 for his sports trivia knowledge.
