Chris Hodges Biography

Chris Hodges is an American Pastor who is best known as the founding and senior pastor of the Church of the Highlands. Highlands, his church, began in 2001 and has grown to have campuses across Alabama. We are known for our life-giving culture and focus on leading people to an intimate relationship with God.

Chris Hodges Career

In 1994, he returned to Bethany World Prayer Center as an associate pastor. He hosted a daily television show called “Lifeline” while there. Hodges moved to Birmingham in the year 2000 with the intention of starting a new church. He founded the Association of Related Churches, a non-profit involved in church development, and began recruiting leaders for the new Highlands Church.

The first service was held in the auditorium of Mountain Brook High School in February 2001. In 2007, the church built its own campus after becoming one of the country’s fastest-growing congregations. By 2020, the church had more than 20 satellite campuses and over 60,000 members.

Hodges’ involvement with the Evangelicals for Trump Coalition and his social media interactions with right-wing provocateur Charlie Kirk raised concerns about his cultural insensitivity toward African-Americans, which was highlighted during the 2020 George Floyd protests. Hodges apologized for his heinous actions on June 2.

David and Michael have both previously worked on the staff of the Church of the Highlands’ main campus in Irondale, under their father’s supervision. David was previously the college pastor at Church of the Highlands before taking on the role of youth minister at Hillsong Church in Los Angeles in 2017. Michael Hodges served as Greystone’s campus pastor until he was fired in 2017 for a “moral failing.” His appearance at Charlotte’s Freedom House Church appears to be his return to public ministry.
