Christy Henderson is an American meteorologist working for WSPA as the chief meteorologist since joining the station in 2003. Further, she appears on 7NEWS on weekday evenings at 4, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 11 p.m. She has served the station for more than 2 decades. She worked freelance in Washington, D.C. at WJLA and in Fort Worth, Texas at the CBS affiliate before joining WSPA.

Henderson works for WSPA as the chief meteorologist. In this role, she supervises all forecasts and on-air weather presentations. Further, she appears on 7NEWS on weekday evenings at 4, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 11 p.m. Aside from her TV roles, she forecasts the weather for the regional radio stations and consults with Spartanburg District 5 Schools to guarantee scheduled activities stay safe from perilous weather.

After graduating college in 1995, Henderson began her TV career in Waco, Texas. She worked there on weekends for 8 months before she relocated to New Orleans. In New Orleans, she served the Fox affiliate there, WVUE, as a weekend meteorologist for over 3 years. She was later promoted to the 5 p.m. weekday weather.

Henderson gained an interest in studying tropical weather during her time at WVUE. She was also on-air when Hurricane Danny passed across Plaquemines parish in Southeast Louisiana in 1997. The following year, she was on air when Hurricane Georges loomed the New Orleans and coastal region before it hit near Biloxi, Mississippi.

After her time in New Orleans, Henderson relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where she served “Good Day Atlanta” as the morning meteorologist for 3 ½ years. Additionally, she covered the weather during the noon show daily. Numerous celebrities came to the station for interviews and she did the weather alongside them including Ed McMahon, The Rock, and Kevin Bacon.

Henderson worked freelance in Washington, D.C. at WJLA and in Fort Worth, Texas at the CBS affiliate before joining WSPA. She works as a member of the American Meteorological Society and holds their Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal.

The South Carolina Broadcasters Association has named Weathercaster of the Year six times. Thrice, she won SCBA’s Personality of the Year Award(2015, 2016, and 2017). She also received Spartanburg’s “Best of the Best” award granted by popular vote.
