Chuck Scarborough is a famous American Emmy Award-winning Television Journalist and Author. He works for NBC 4 New York where he has been reporting for the station since 1974. There, he is the lead news anchor, the New York City flagship station of the NBC Television Network, and has also appeared on NBC News. Currently, he anchors News 4 New York at 6 pm every weeknight. He also served in the United States Air Force and currently has a commercial pilot certificate.
His anchoring was a key component of NBC 4 New York’s award-winning COVID-19 coverage honored in January 2021 with the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for creating a 360 view in real time of the coronavirus pandemic with courageous pandemic and thorough reporting on the virus’ explosion in New York City. Being an author, he has authored three novels, Stryker (1978), The Myrmidon Project (1980), and Aftershock (1991), and has written articles for publication in New York Magazine, Boston Magazine, and American Home Magazine.
Chuck has earned 36 local Emmy Awards and was honored by the New York Chapter of Television Arts & Sciences with their 2014 “Governor’s Award” as recognition of his long and distinguished career in Journalism. Also, his work has earned awards from the Associated Press, the New York Press Club, the Aviation and Space Writers, the Washington Review of Journalism’s Best in the Business, the Working Press Association, and the New York State Broadcasters Association. He earned a National Emmy and Edward R. Murrow Award as part of NBC 4 New York’s continuing coverage of Hurricane Sandy. In 2005, he was one of the first inductees into the New York State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.

Chuck joined the station as the sole anchor of the station’s then-new 5: 00 pm newscast NewsCenter (later renamed News 4 New York). Eventually, he became the station’s lead anchor at 6 pm and 11 pm. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was the host of the syndicated programs Images-A Year in Review and Memories… Then and Now. Also, he co-anchored the NBC network documentary series Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow with Maria Shriver and Mary Alice Williams.
On July 14, 2017, 11:00 pm marked Scarborough’s last as a regular anchor in that time slot after 42 years. Taking his place at 11 was Stefan Holt. Since then, he has appeared several times on the 11 pm edition filling in when Holt or David Ushery has time off. Over the years, he has led breaking news coverage locally and abroad. He has filed reports from Europe, Russia, the Middle East, the Philippines, Mexico, and South America. He began his television career at WLOX-TV as a reporter and later at WDAM-TV, before moving to WAGA-TV. His first major market anchoring job came at WNAC-TV in 1972 where he was originally hired as part of a two-man anchor team with Lee Nelson. Soon he was made the solo anchor of the station’s news broadcasts.
