Bierko attended Boston University’s School of Public Communications after completing his high school education at Blind Brook High School. During his freshman year there, he studied Journalism. Even so, most of his time was spent across the Charles where he did plays at Harvard.

In 2000, Bierko debuted on Broadway with the character of Professor Harold Hill in Susan Stroman’s critically praised revival of Meredith Willson’s The Music Man. He was scheduled to appear on Broadway in the Manhattan Theatre Club production of To Be or Not to Be. However, he withdrew from production on August 29, 2008, due to creative differences.

In February 2009, he appeared as Sky Masterson in the Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls. The show closed on March 1, 2009, after 113 performances. In 2011, he starred as Peter in the New York Philharmonic production of Stephen Sondheim’s Company. In 2022, Conor McPherson cast him in his Girl from the North Country where he performed till the performance closed on June 19, 2022.
