After graduating from college, he worked in Milwaukee while working on his Master’s degree. He spent half a dozen years at KUTV before returning to Utah TV. A New York station hired him before transferring to Los Angeles, where he spent years at multiple networks.
Wirth worked as a financial correspondent for Financial News Network (now known as CNBC). There, he broadcast economic-based reports such as the fall of Communism in the Soviet Union and East Berlin. Utah called him back, and he began commuting between CNBC in Los Angeles and Wirth Watching at ABC4 in Salt Lake City. After 12 years, he gave up commuting to Los Angeles and served the University of Utah in a faculty position. He also did documentaries for public TV, particularly in Montana.
Wirth still teaches at the University of Utah. He was inducted into the Utah Broadcasters Hall of Fame for his TV work. Further, he worked as the Communications Director of the Episcopal Diocese of Utah for the last 10 years.
