David Alan Biography
David Alan is an American journalist who previously worked for 13News Now as an anchor at r 5, 5:30, 6, and 11 p.m. He joined the station in April 2000 and served the station for more than 2decades before bidding his farewells to Hampton Roads.
David Alan Education
Alan attended Carnegie Mellon University in September 1969 after completing his high school education. When he finished his studies in February 1973, he became a graduate and attained a Bachelor Of Arts degree in Music.
He did his Music postgraduate studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 1975 to 1977. While in Illinois, he worked as a teaching assistant voice faculty. In 1977, he received a Master Of Fine Arts degree in Opera from Carnegie Mellon University. From 1980 to 1982, he studied journalism at New School.

In 2007, he went to Blacksburg to broadcast the shootings of Virginia Tech for the station. Also, he served as the host of the station’s special presentation, U.S.S. Monitor: An Ironclad Adventure in History. Further, he anchored the effects of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) on Naval Air Station Oceana.
Alan received an Edward R. Murrow Award and has received recognition from the Virginia Association of Broadcasters for uncovering the vulnerabilities in the Virginia Beach Emergency Response System. Also, he attained the Douglas Southall Freeman Award for reporting matters that make a difference in the region.
Before 13 News Now, he worked for KOCO 5 as a news anchor for 3 years and 10 months. While there, he received an Emmy for broadcasting the Federal case of Terry Nichols, an Oklahoma City bombing co-conspirator.
Alan received an Emmy nomination for broadcasting the case of Timothy McVeigh, a domestic terrorist. Prior to KOCO, he served WLFL CW22 as a news anchor where he helped t debut the market’s initial 10 o’clock newscast.
