Dee Griffin is an American journalist working for WJBF as a co-anchor at 4:30, 5:30 and 7 p.m. Also, she writes and reports general assignments and long-format stories airing on WJBF News Channel 6 and ME-TV. She joined the station for the second time in July 2017, previously serving the station from October 2012 to July 2014 as a news reporter and anchor. Before joining WJBF in July 2017, she served the Augusta/Georgia Government as a public information officer, fire safety educator, and spokesperson for 3 years.

Griffin joined Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee when she finished her high school education at Aquinas High School. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. The Memphis Alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated granted her the “Jesse H. Turner, Senior Community Service Award.” Memphis Woman Magazine mentioned her in their list of the “50 Women Who Make A Difference in Memphis.”
The Memphis Business Journal mentioned in its list of the “Top 40 Under 40.” Griffin holds pride in her work with “Leadership Memphis.” She was chosen as a “2019 Unsung Heroine Honoree” by The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter. During the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Life, and Legacy Honor commemoration, she won “The Salute to Greatness” award.
As a former victim of an abusive marriage, she uses her experiences and public speaking to speak against domestic violence. She goes to different cities to help rescue women and men affected by domestic violence. Griffin works as a member of The Links Incorporated (Augusta chapter), Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated (Augusta chapter). Moreover, she is one of the board of directors for the Burn Foundation of America.

Griffin was previously in an abusive marriage. She said that she first noticed something wrong on the night before her wedding day. He got angry at her for lateness, at the time, she was awaiting a surprise she had for him. However, she brushed off the occasion after her family and friends convinced her that he had pre-wedding jitters and a case of cold feet.
They married in Augusta before relocating to Boston where he worked in the education sector. Progressively, she fought through the soaring tell-tale signs of abuse but she stopped her ignorance when she was pregnant with their first child. Despite trying to make their marriage work, he didn’t put in any effort and even refused counseling.
When she was 7 months pregnant, he pushed her and after she gave birth, he attacked, hit, and kicked her. As a result, he was arrested and she decided to leave when her son was 5 weeks old. Thus, she called her mother and sister for help and they came to relocate her back to August. She used to sleep on the floor at her parent’s house cause she feared that he would come to shoot the house. He then filed for divorce and gave up his parental rights.
With no child support and job, she later found out that he was cheating on her with a woman in Memphis. Griffin thought of committing suicide but held on to life for her son’s sake. She gave her son her father’s last name. When Pierce was 4 years old, Griffin’s father passed away. Before his death, he told her to tell her story. She has made it her mission to speak against domestic violence.
