Dennis Owens is an American journalist working for WHTM ABC 27 as the host and co-producer of This Week in Pennsylvania, the only statewide political talk program in Pennsylvania. He joined the station in 1993 and has served the station for over 3 decades.

Owens has served the station for over 3 decades and has held several roles during this time. He started as a weekend sports anchor under Sports Director Gregg Mace. In that role, he broadcast the World Series, baseball’s Spring Training, Bowl Games, NASCAR races, Super Bowls, and Penn State football. However, he holds most pride in co-creating Friday Night Football, a program that marked its 25th anniversary in 2021. That show continues to display cheerleaders, high school athletes, and bands that make Friday nights unique across Central Pennsylvania.
Owens switched to news in 1999, co-anchoring Live at Five. That opportunity helped him showcase his ability to bond with viewers and the community, including going to the local fair, jumping out of airplanes, and learning to make Easter eggs. His warmth, personality, and love of the Midstate were always on display. He was then called to the anchor desk, fFrst with Valerie Pritchett at 7 p.m. and then Alicia Richards at 6 p.m.
Owens has always had a passion for storytelling and journalism. He has received over 70 Regional Emmy Awards nominations, winning 15, including Best Anchor in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Also, he was honored with the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for his report on the influence of lobbyists in Harrisburg.
