He packed his bags after spending two years in North Carolina and returned to the Midwest to anchor weekend sports for WLWT-TV, the Cincinnati affiliate of NBC. From there, it was to Fox affiliate WFLD-TV in Chicago, where he hosted all the programming for the Chicago Bears and covered Michael Jordan’s return with the Bulls. The next stop was KDNL-TV in St. Louis, where he covered the first season of the Rams in Missouri and the record-breaking home run chase between Mark McGwire and the Cardinals.

In September of 1998, Derrin moved to Los Angeles and started working on the Conference USA package as a sideline reporter for Fox Sports Net. He finally started calling ESPN as a play-by-play announcer for college football and basketball. He’s also called games for ABC Sports, NFL Network, and Fox Sports Net’s coverage of NFL Europe, as well as working as a sideline reporter for CBS Sports’ coverage of “The Road to the Final 4,” and NBC Sports’ “Bayou Classic.” Derrin attended Syracuse University where he received a dual degree in broadcast journalism and political philosophy.
