Dickson joined Sam Houston State University after finishing her high school education. In 2019, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Multiplatform Journalism. While in college, she had the chance to work alongside Dan Rather and his grandson, Martin Rather, to produce his on-campus show, News and Guts Media. Moreover, she earned a scholarship in his honor.
Dickson furthered her studies at Louisiana State University, where she earned her Master of Science degree in Leadership and Human Resource Development in 2021. Less than a year later, she enrolled in Mississippi State University’s Broadcast Operational Meteorology program, earning her second Bachelor’s degree.

On April 3, 2026, Dickson shared that she was officially diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer via a post on her Facebook account. She underwent several MRIs, CT scans, and biopsies to reach her diagnosis. She said that she was currently receiving chemotherapy to target the tumor in her left kidney. Moreover, she shared that she was due for a kidney removal surgery to ensure the cancer doesn’t spread throughout her body. While noting that there is a low survival rate and technically no cure, she said that she believes that God is with her and regarded it as part of her assignment in this season, and maybe for life.
