Dominic Rains is an Iranian-American actor, best known as the main antagonist of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the first quarter of the fifth season, Dr. Marcel in Chicago Med, and A Girl Walks Home Alone during Night in 2014.
Dominic Rains Career
Rains started his acting career with Saving Jessica Lynch, in 2003, a well-known TV film. In the popular TV movie Flight 93, he later appeared in 2006. From 12 July to 4 October 2007 in SOAPnet’s General Hospital, Rains appeared as Dr. Leo Julian: Night Shift, the ABC General Hospital soap opera for the 13-episode prime time. The character was introduced on 2 July 2007 at the General Hospital. His brother Ethan was appointed to the role on 22 July 2008, when Rains did not become available for the second season of the series.
The New York Times praised his performance as “particularly eye-catching” and NBC noted that “reminiscent of Adrien Brody’s career-launching turn in Summer of Sam. Rains is just operating at an entirely higher level as the heart and soul of this film.” while the rains are just being used as an entity. In 2010, he won recognition for his role in the discussion-starting independent film The Taqwacores on the basis of a novel from Michael Muhammad Knight, an American convert to Islam in 2004. He continued to appear in a number of TV series, including 24, Flash Forward, Burn Notification, NCIS, Cane, and Anger Management, after playing his role in the General Hospital.
It also won him the award for best actor at the International Film Festival of Ourense. Later in 2010, he filmed and played a leading role in the supernatural thriller of Exodus Pictures, Jinn. In April 2014, the film came out nationwide. He was playing Shawn Walker, a young Detroit automotive designer who uncovers an old secret that threatens to destroy his whole family. Rains were Saeed’s favorite horror film A Girl Walks Home Alone at night at the Sundance Film Festival. It was acquired by Kino Lorber for mainstream US distribution and released in late 2014 and was highly praised by many critics after its debut.
“This stunning and stinging cinematic marvel left us speechless at its premiere,” wrote Richard Lorber, a founding member of the company. Rains were also involved in a short film written and directed in 2014 with his brother Ethan, Still Here, and Shohreh Aghdashloo and Alan Rosenberg, inspired by real-life cancer events of their cousin. This film was made in conjunction with Exodus Pictures by the Rains Brothers. In 2019, Rains began to perform as Dr. Crockett Marcel, a new trauma surgeon in the hospital and starred in the fifth year of the medical NBC drama Chicago Med.
Rains work in the Los Angeles theater community, as well as in TV and film, and is a Member of Elephant Theater Company based in Los Angeles. He has played in Desert Sunrise, Block Nine, Love Sick, Baby Doll, Cycles, and the North Plan on the stage with the Elephants.
