Donnie Cox is an American meteorologist working for WCTI as the chief meteorologist since joining the station in February 2015. Previously, he worked as a weekday morning meteorologist at WCYB in Bristol, Virginia.

Cox works for WCTI as the chief meteorologist. Previously, he worked for the CBS affiliate station in Nashville for 2 decades and WCYB in Bristol, Virginia for 5 years. He holds the AMS Seal of Approval. In elementary school, he drew weather maps on the chalkboards in classrooms. Ever since he has been fascinated with the weather.
Cox attained his pilot’s license, which required a bit of weather study, in high school. He once flew into Category 5 Hurricanes (Mitch and Ivan) with the Hurricane Hunters. In 1988, he was in Nashville when the tornado hit the downtown region.
Cox’s wife says that he goes to the front porch to watch and tell people what to do instead of taking cover when a thunderstorm or tornado siren goes off. He is also fascinated with space flight and space exploration. Aside from broadcasting space shuttle launches from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, he watched almost all of them on TV.
