In 1998, Douglas Emhoff joined Belin Rawlings & Badal as a Special Counsel and became a partner of the Los Angeles-based law firm in 2000.

For the next six years, he was a managing partner at Whitwell Jacoby Emhoff LLP in Beverly Hills. In August 2006, Emhoff joined Venable LLP as its Managing Director in the West Coast and took charge of their branches in LA and San Francisco, where he served in the position till September 2017.
