Dr. Max Gomez Biography

Dr. Max Gomez is an American Award-winning anchor and reporter at NBC2. He has been working for the station since joining in July 2007.

Gomez went to Coral Gables High School where he attained his high school diploma. In 1969, he joined Princeton University where he attained his B.A. in Geophysical Science in 1973. He, later on, joined Wake Forest School of Medicine where he attained his Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Anatomy in 1978.

Gomez serves as a medical correspondent at NBC2/WNBC and WCBS-TV in New York City. He also spent some years working on the national board of directors for the American Heart Association. In addition to that, he also mentors undergraduate medical students, journalists, and physicians who are interested in medical journalism. On joining NBC2, he started off by serving as a Health and Science Editor.

Gomez worked at the Science Writers Fellowship where he was also on the board of advisers. He was also on the board of advisers at the Hope and Heroes Children’s Cancer Fund at the Children’s Hospital of New York. In addition to that, he is also an active member of the honorary board of the Long Island Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.

Prior to NBC2, he previously worked at WCBS-TV where he served as a medical reporter/health editor from 1994 to 1997. Before that, he previously worked at KYW-TV in Philadelphia where he served as the health and science editor. He also spent several years working at WNEW-TV where he served as a health and science reporter/editor.

Gomez has also been awarded numerous awards including seven New York Emmy Awards. He is also the recipient of a UPI honor for Best Documentary for a report on AIDS, two Philadelphia Emmys, and an Excellence in Time of Crisis Award from New York City after September 11.

Furthermore, he was awarded by the National Marfan Foundation with a national television journalism award. The Leukemia Society of America awarded him with a national television journalism award for his report on two twin girls who were suffering from Leukemia from Long Island. Moreover, he was tagged the American Health Foundation’s Man of the Year.
