Staples serves as a weekend weather forecaster at WITN-TV in Greenville, North Carolina. He has been with the station for more than eight months since he joined in August 2023. Previously, he worked in Martinsville, Virginia before he joined WITN-TV. Dustin began his professional career at Martinsville High School where he worked at WMHS8 Stars. During his time there, he used to announce morning and afternoon announcements.
In his senior year, Staples was offered an opportunity to work at BTW21where he was honored with the Weatherman title. After high school, Staples went on to join Radford University where he still worked at BTW21 for five and half years. While at college, he graduated with a degree in Media Studies and a minor in Digital Communications. In addition to this, he also worked as a manager at Highlander Student Media. He also worked at The Tartan as a co-editor-in-chief and weather correspondent as well as worked at r Radio Free Radford as a show host.
From there, Dustin went on and worked at Radford on Camera as a weather correspondent. His passion for journalism began at a young age when he watched local TV in Roanoke-Lynchburg and then told his classmates the upcoming and daily news every day. Aside from working as a journalist, Staples was an active member of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM) where he served as a campus ministry. He also served as the Social Media & Co-Outreach Coordinator at BCM.
