Ed Skrein is an English actor, filmmaker, and rapper who rose to prominence for playing the role of the villain Francis Freeman / Ajax in Deadpool in 2016. He has starred in films like The Transporter: Refueled, Alita: Battle Angel, and Midway.

During his career, he has worked with several artists like Plan B, Dubbledge, Foreign Beggars, Asian Dub Foundation, and Doc Brown. Moreover, he released Pre-Emptive Nostalgia alongside A State of Mind, an international hip-hop act. In 2009, he worked with Dr Syntax on the collaborative album, Scene Stealers under the name Skreintax.

In 2016, Skrein starred in the role of Francis Freeman/Ajax in the superhero film, Deadpool. Ajax was a scientist, a mutant with immunity to pain, and the leader of the Workshop program. He offers Wade Wilson, a Canadian special forces operative and freelance mercenary dying from cancer, the chance to cure him.

At an underground facility called the Workshop, he puts Wade through torture so that he can activate his mutant genes and sell him as a super slave. However, Wade escapes adopts the name Deadpool, and starts pursuing revenge after Ajax leaves him for dead in a burning laboratory.

For his performance in the film, he received nominations for an MTV Movie Best Villain Award and Teen Choice Choice Movie Villain Award. Also, he earned an MTV Movie Award for Best Fight with Ryan Reynolds.
