Edi Gathegi Biography

Edi Gathegi is a Kenyan-American actor who was born on March 10th, 1979, in Nairobi, Kenya. Gathegi was raised in Albany, California, United States. He played basketball at the University of California, Santa Barbara before suffering a knee injury that ended his career.

After that, Gathegi began taking classes in acting. After that, he attended the Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Acting Program at New York University, where he received his degree in 2005.

Gathegi started his career in the theater, and some of his stage roles include Cyrano de Bergerac, As You Like It, Twelfth Night, Othello, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Two Trains Running at the Old Globe Theatre.

In the 2006 film Crank, Gathegi played the Haitian cabbie, his first professional role. Even though he had originally put in an audition for the role of Kaylo, the producers gave it to Efren Ramirez and offered Gathegi the chance to play the Haitian cabbie instead.

He was initially skeptical about performing with a Haitian accent, but a Haitian friend helped him. Gathegi appeared as Bodie in Death Sentence, Darudi in The Fifth Patient, and Cheese in Gone Baby Gone in 2007, following guest roles on Lincoln Heights and Veronica Mars.

Later, in the television medical drama House, he played Mormon intern Dr. Jeffrey Cole on a regular basis. Dr. House, who is an atheist himself, frequently made fun of his character for his religious beliefs. He also appeared as a guest on CSI: CSI, Miami: Before being cast as Laurent in Twilight, in 2008, I appeared on Crime Scene Investigation and Life on Mars.

Gathegi had never heard of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series before auditioning for the 2008 film, which was based on the first book with the same title. He also had no idea that his character was a vampire. He now considers himself to be a fervent fan after reading the entire series.

In the film Atlas Shrugged (2011), which is based on the novel of the same name by Ayn Rand, he plays Eddie Willers. He later depicted one more Haitian person, Jean Baptiste, for the fifth time Legitimized, however, was discontent with the job and requested to be discounted from the show.

He has also played the role of Matias Solomon, a covert organization operative, in NBC’s television series The Blacklist. Gathegi repeated the role in the 2016-2017 season crime thriller The Blacklist: Redemption. Additionally, he plays Ronald Dacey on StartUp.
