Ellina Abovian is an American award-winning Journalist currently working as a general assignment reporter for KTLA 5 News. She previously worked for KTLA’s sister station, KSWB Fox 5 News, in San Diego.
Abovian grew up in an immigrant family in Glendale, California, and watching the evening news was an integral part of her day. By launching the “Windsor Chronicle,” a newspaper chronicling the everyday ins and outs of her apartment complex, Ellina became an accomplished journalist at 9 years old. Before she removed her pen and pad for a Super Nintendo, she had four problems. Ellina’s ability to share people’s tales inspired her early years in journalism.
Ellina received a degree from California State University, Los Angeles, in broadcast journalism. After college, she worked in the fields of production, marketing, and online publishing for CBS Television and LA2DAY.com.
In addition to being in front of the camera, the eventual move from the Los Angeles market brought Ellina to San Luis Obispo to work as a ‘one-man-band journalist, where she filmed, wrote, and edited her own stories. She finally traded for the Central Valley on the Central Coast and worked in Fresno covering the drought in California, wildfires, and numerous incidents of animal cruelty.
She speaks Armenian, Russian, and French in four languages, and loves to travel every chance she gets. Ellina likes cooking, eating out, hiking, painting, movies, and spending time with her loved ones in her spare time.
