Emily Maher Biography

Emily Maher is an American Reporter working with WCVB Channel 5/NewsCenter 5 team where she serves the station as a General Assignment Reporter. Prior to NewsCenter 5, she was working with KCRA 3 News in Sacramento, California serving the station as a Reporter since August 2018.

Emily Maher Education

Maher is a proud graduate of the S.I Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. There, she obtained a degree in broadcast journalism and political science. She also attended Syracuse University where she was studying at the Maxwell School.

There, she studied between 2008 and 2012 obtaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and a minor in Geography graduating with a 3.6 Grade. Prior to this, she had attended Syracuse University London Program where she studied in the year 2010. During that time, she was studying abroad in London, England with a focus on international media and politics.

Maher works with WCVB Channel 5/award-winning NewsCenter 5 team serving the station as a general assignment reporter. Previously she was working with the NBC affiliate station KCRA 3 News, Hearst Television station as a Reporter. While working in California, she covered some of the state’s most deadly destructive wildfires. This includes one that destroyed the town of Paradise.

Asides from that, she also traveled to San Jose in order to cover the deadly mass shooting at a public transit railyard. Additionally, she has the opportunity to fly overhead in a helicopter, while covering protests and demonstrations at the Capitol. 

Prior to joining the KCRA News team, she spent about three years working in Louisville, Kentucky where she was reporting on a wide range of stories. These include the legendary Kentucky Derb, crime, and education. Prior to moving to L9ouisville, she was working as a reporter in Northwest Arkansas.

Being a Rhode Island native, one can always count on her to be cheering on her New England teams. Away from work and rooting for her home teams, she can be found outside most often running. Maher has completed four half-marathons and is hoping to run the renowned Boston Marathon in the near future.
