Eric Kahnert is an American Emmy-winning Anchor working for CBS 8 News serving as weekday morning and noon anchor from 4:30 a.m.-7 a.m. and 11 a.m.-12 pm. Previously, he worked for KMGH-TV as the main evening anchor.

After graduating from high school, Eric went on to join the University of Southern California where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism in 2002. He was also a captain of the Division II hockey team and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, and USC’s Skull & Dagger Honor Society. In addition to this, he also worked for USC’s prestigious Annenberg TV News where he served as a reporter and anchor.

There, he brings inspiring stories to the viewers mainly focusing on youth sports and medical advancements. Most recently, Eric opened up a franchise called Trading Places which addressed difficult job opportunities that are mostly not recognized. Such jobs include rollercoaster ride operator, preschool teacher, animal shelter care attendant, and butcher.
For his work in the Trading Places segment, Kahnert was nominated by the San Diego Press Club and honored with the 1st Place News Feature Series Award. In addition, he has also received multiple awards including 10 Emmy Awards, 19 Emmy nominations for Best Live Reporter and Anchor, and a Golden Mike Award. Prior to joining CBS News, Eric worked for KMGH-TV as the main evening anchor from 2014 to 2016. During his tenure there, he reported high-profile news such as the deadly storms and wildfires, the Aurora theater shooting trial, and sports events.
Earlier, Kahnert spent two years working as a primary anchor at KSTP in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Before that, he worked for KUSA-TV in Denver as a weekend anchor. His feature coverage was showcased on CNN and Dateline NBC from 2009 to 2012. Previously, Eric worked for KOB-TV 4 as an investigator reporter and anchor. He worked there for five years from 2004 to 2009. He started his professional career as an anchor and reporter at KTTC-TV in Rochester, Minnesota.
Aside from working as a journalist, Kahnert is also a volunteer at the Special Olympics Organisation. He is also the first journalist to train and mentor developmentally disabled adults who want to become journalists. Previously, Eric worked as an emcee and organizer at MDA San Diego where he helped in fundraising and creating awareness among communities. For his outstanding work, he has been recognized by a non-profit organization and honored with various awards including Emmy Awards.
