Eric Sorensen Biography

Eric Sorensen is a Canadian correspondent working at Global News. He began serving as the Senior National Affairs Correspondent in 2014. He previously served as a Washington Bureau Chief for Global National from November 2006 when he joined the station in 2014. 

Eric Sorensen Career

Sorensen is a Senior National Affairs Correspondent working at Global News since 2014. While Sorensen served as a Washington Bureau Chief, he covered the most significant stories in the United States and around the world, including; the Winter and Summer Olympics in  Sochi, Russia, and Vancouver, London, and the election of U-S President Barack Obama. Previously, he worked at CBC for eighteen years and while he was at the station, he covered the Swissair crash off Nova Scotia and the death of Princess Diana in Paris. In addition, while he served as a parliamentary reporter, he was aboard during a number of national election campaigns, traveled across five continents with three Prime Ministers, and covered international summits – G-8, NATO, and APEC.

Furthermore, Sorensen has also worked at CBC National based in Yellowknife and Saskatoon where he served as a reporter. He began his broadcasting career at CHOW Radio in Welland in 1973. Eric has also worked in Peterborough and  Wingham, he has served as a news director at ATV Moncton. While he was in London, he worked at CFPL TV where he served as an anchor, and worked at CTV (CFTO TV) Toronto as a reporter.

After graduating from Toronto’s Ryerson University in 1976, he was named MVP of Ryerson’s Varsity basketball team in the same year. In 1984, he receive the Benton Fellowship in Broadcast Journalism as the first Canadian from the University of Chicago. Sorensen attended the Ryerson Polytechnical Institute radio and television arts program and in 1976, he graduated from Toronto’s Ryerson University with a Bachelor’s Degree.
