Erik Dobratz is an American journalist working for WTNH as a sports reporter since he was promoted in 2011. He joined the station in November 1998 as a writer for the news department. Previously, he served WLIS/WMRD radio in Middletown and the CBS Radio Network in New York City

Dobratz joined the University of South Florida in August 1991 after finishing his high school education. He studied there until April 1993, when he transferred to the University of Connecticut. In December 1995, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Political Science.

Dobratz has worked for WTNH as a sports reporter since he was promoted in 2011. In this role, he is on the air on News 8’s 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts. He has served the station for over 2 decades. Upon joining the station, he initially worked as a writer for the news department. Later, he was promoted to producer of the noon and then the 5 p.m. newscasts.
Dobratz was tasked with producing Pilot Pen sports coverage for News 8 in 2002. When the tournament was over, the Sports Department came calling. He spent multiple years as a sports producer until he became a sports reporter in 2011, where he has been working with Sports Team 8 ever since.
Dobratz has honed his skills while working behind the scenes at Connecticut’s biggest sporting events. He went to Atlanta and New Orleans to broadcast UConn for the Women’s Final Four. Moreover, he has produced many golf and tennis specials for News 8.
Dobratz has produced the Emmy-nominated production of Inside Huskies Football, Huskies All Access, and the MyTV9 High School Football Game of the Week. He debuted on-air with Sports Team 8, delivering color commentary for the MyTV9 High School Football Game of the Week. He previously served WLIS/WMRD radio in Middletown and the CBS Radio Network in New York City.
