Frank Johnson Biography
Frank Johnson is an American Meteorologist working for WBTW News 13 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina as the Chief Meteorologist. He joined the station in January 2007 after working for KOCO-TV.
Frank Johnson Education
Johnson graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science at Penn State University in 1991. Johnson was also involved in storm-chasing activities while he was in university. The desire to continue learning pushed Johnson forward, toward graduate studies. He obtained his Master’s degree in Meteorology where he continued studying the specific Numerical Weather Prediction Models and Statistical Analysis. His thesis was to analyze the effect of land use/land cover changes on microclimate, which can be seen as the coexistence of urbanization and cliffs.

Before anchoring himself in the Carolinas, Johnson was able to steer KOCO-TV for nine years before leaving; covering tornadoes and providing forecasts in the station that helped people stay safe. Johnson and his team stayed on the air broadcasting their station’s programming and reassuring their community.
In Amarillo, at KVII-TV he was chasing tornadoes across the sad plains with the radar in his hand. Hurricane Danny took him to the Gulf Coast and he remained rooted at KBMT-TV in Beaumont. In Grand Isle, Louisiana, he worked in 90 mph winds extending a sand fence against the storm tide.
Johnson had the making of a super television star at QTV.com. He was able to work for WBTW-TV, simple predictions which he turned into an art form. Furthermore, he worked for KREX-TV where he prepared and delivered weather forecasts for 5:30 and 10 pm newscasts, Monday through Friday. He also created weather graphics from scratch and related them to the public for CBS and FOX affiliates.
Notably, he has forecasted and monitored weather over the entire United States for different industries such as; media (TV, radio, newspapers), transportation, utility, education, government, and business. Additionally, he worked hand in hand as a weather intern with Harvey Leonard a chief meteorologist for WHDH-TV.
