Gabriel Klein is an American accused of stabbing and killing Letisha Reimer, 13, at Abbotsford Senior Secondary School in 2016. Klein is also accused of wounding another girl, 14, in the attack.

He was charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault, but in April 2018 was found mentally unfit for trial. Klein has schizophrenia and suffers from auditory hallucinations, paranoid delusions and thought disorder.

The B.C. Review Board, which periodically examines cases where individuals are found to be unfit to stand trial, found Klein fit for court earlier in January.

Board chair Bernd Walter explained when an accused person is declared mentally unfit to stand trial, they are eventually reviewed by the board to see if they can competently participate in the court process.

Klein’s Trial

On 24 January 2019, A B.C. Supreme Court justice ruled that Gabriel Klein is fit to stand trial for the stabbing death of an Abbotsford teen. The exact date of the trial is yet to be released. Until then, the judge decided Klein will remain at the Colony Farms psychiatric hospital (Coquitlam) until the trial is over. A trial date is expected to be announced soon.

Gabriel Klein Sentencing

In July 2021, Klein was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 16 years after being found guilty of killing 13-year-old Letisha Reimer inside Abbotsford Secondary School.

The second sentence was for stabbing Reimer’s friend and classmate, Klein was sentenced another seven years to be served concurrently.
