Thus, she taught herself about construction and design, how to do tile work, cut wood, install lighting, and more. Further, she had promised her ex-fiancé that she would resign from her job at Goldman Sachs so that she could move to Connecticut and get married.
Alix used to film her revamp progress and post it on Instagram so that he could see the progress and be proud of her. In her effort to be the perfect fiancée, the perfect homemaker, and the perfect designer, she developed an eating disorder. She had not shared her struggles with her ex-fiancé because she felt nervous; “You feel like if you tell anybody they’re not going to love you or want you anymore.”
Before their wedding and a week after resigning from her job and relocating to Connecticut, she disclosed to her fiancé that she was struggling which he didn’t take lightly and broke up with her. He said that they couldn’t go on with the wedding because she had hidden her struggle and lied to him. She then relocated to Florida with her dogs. She said that she didn’t blame him for leaving her because she was dishonest.
After they broke up, she went to therapy, saw an eating disorder therapist and a nutritionist, and deleted Instagram for multiple months. Also, she got her job back at Goldman Sachs. When she returned to Instagram, she discovered that her home renovation of the 10,000 sq. ft. Connecticut mansion she and her ex-fiancé planned on living in had gone viral. People had sent her requests for renovations. One weekend, she decided to accept a request and the rest is history.
